Recreation in Philadelphia
Boating - The Delaware river runs along the eastern edge of Philadelphia . There are number of marinas in the area . Voters can go as far north as the falls at Trenton . If they proceed south they will come to Delaware bay and the Atlantic ocean . There are very few riverfront establishments that cater to boaters from Philadelphia northward . Boaters need to be aware of the fact that they are sharing the river with large commercial vessels . This Schuylkill river runs west from the Delaware river . This is restricted primarily to one powered vessels especially up river from the water works Fishing - Licenses are required for fishing . Some of the creeks provide fishing opportunities including those within Fairmont and Pennypack Parks as well as other creeks and streams in the city.
