Philadelphia has been, and is, home to many famous Philadelephians.

  • Bill Cosby - A comedian and television star
  • Katherine Drexel  came from a wealthy famiy and is now a Catholic Saint
  • Benjamin Franklin - Benjamin Franklin was a resident of Philadelphia who played a key role in the War of Independence and the subsequent drafting of the United States Constitution.
  • Grace Kelley  was a Philadelphia Actress who later became the princess of Monaco
  • George Meade was a Union Army General who fought at the Battle of Gettysburg. Meade was also responsible for the design and construction of several lighthouses including the Barnegat Lighthouse.
  • William  Penn - William Penn was the founder of Philadelphia. Penn, a Quaker, envisioned a "City of Brotherly Love".
  • Frank Rizzo was a politican who served several terms as Mayor of Philadelphia.
  • Betsy Ross who is said to have designed the first American Flag.
  • One of Philadelphia's great contributions to culture (or comedy depending on your viewpoint) was Curly Joe DeRita and Larry Fine of the The Three Stooges.  W. C. Fields derived much of his material by means of jokes at Philadelphia's expense.

    Philadelphia has contributed to both the left and right of politics with Noam Chomsky, Chris Matthews, Tina Fey on the left.
