Flower Show From March 2 to March 9 2008

The Philadelphia Flower Show will run from March 2 through March 9th 2008.It's being held at the Philadelphia Convention Center.

Tickets are about $22 for adults (plus parking, food etc) Proceeds benefit the Philadelphia Horticulural Society.

Sippin by the River - Food and music to benefit the Chron's & Colitis Foundation - 9/23/07

Sippin by the River will be held on September 23rd from 1pm to 5pm. at the Festival Pier at Penn's Landing. (That's down by the Delaware River for those Non Philly people)

The event features fine beer and wine, tasting lessons

Tickets range from $25 in advance to a couple of grand for a VIP table. (It is for a good cause!!!)

You can purchase tickets if you are under 21, but you have to be 21 for the wine and beer tasting.

Check out their FAQ before you go.. Apparently cameras and backpacks are not allowed.

Anyway, this would be a great way to spend the day.

Terror behind the walls - at the Eastern State Penitentiary -

The Eastern State Pen is creepy enough without halloween exhibits. This year they are having fright tours in the 177 year old prison. Join them for a quiet evening with homocidal maniacs, insane prison doctors, escaped inmates and other assorted creepies.

The event runs weekends and selected weekdays from the end of September through November 3rd 2007. Tickets and times vary from $20 to $30 and go from about 7pm till 11pm or midnight (Unless the ghouls get you, then you are there forever)

The prison is located at 22nd and Fairmount. Just stop and listen for the screams of the inmates and visitors.

Mummies and King Tut after Dark

The Franklin Institute in one of the great attractions of the city. If nothing else, it's worth seeing the colossal statue of old Ben.

They are offering a film: Mummies, Secrets of the Pharaohs during the summer. They are also having Tut after dark at the Fels Planetarium. WJJZ will be there on July 20th.

See the Magna Carta at the National Consitution Center

A copy of England's Magna Carta will be on display until July 25th 2007 at the Constitution Center. This is a document similar to our Constitution which outlined the rights of the people. The Magna Carta was written in 1215.

The National Constitution Center is located at 525 Arch Street on Philadelphia’s Independence Mall.

Gorillas in our midst.. -- At the Philadelphia Zoo

The Philadelphia Zoo has acquired two Lowland Gorillas from the Bronx, Honi and Kuchimba. They will be joining four other Gorillas at the PECO Primate Reserve.

The zoo is a great way to spend a day with the family.

Fourth of July 2007 Part 2 -

  • DJ's Lee Jones Dirty and Guests will be presenting a celebration at the Mexican Post at Love Park on Tuesday July 3rd. It looks like things start at 10 pm. You must be 21 or older.
  • The Soul to Soul Tour, with country stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will be at the Wachovia Center on Saturday

Fourth of July 2007 Part 1

There are a lot of things to do on Fourth of July in Philly this week and weekend.

First of all Sunoco's Welcome America will be presenting a whole series of events with music, food, dancing and art. They are having a whole series of concerts ranging from classical to Gospel, opera and contemporary. Names include: Chaka Khan, Branford Marsalis, Hall & Oates, the Jazz Ambassadors of the US Army Field Band and Lady Tramaine Hawkins.

The USS Farragut, DDG 99, will be at Penns Landing from July 2nd through the 5th with tours available on July 3rd and 4th.


Fireworks are scheduled for June 30 at 9:30pm following a concert that begins at 6:30pm.

The series of events promises to be fun for the whole family.

Tall Ship in Philly This weekend 6/22 to 6/24

The Tall Ship A.J. Meerwald hails from New Jersey. She will be at Penns Landing this weekend.

It appears that they will be offering sailing trips from Penns Landing.


The ship is a 1928 Oyster Schooner. She is 57 tons and 85 feet.
